Experience realistic awkwardness in Roommate Simulator

Roommate Simulator is a living sim game that puts you in the role of a young single person living in an apartment with a roommate. By interacting with the environment, you'll affect your roommate's mood, getting them to like you or, more frequently, to punch you in the face -- just like in real life.

All the irritation of the real thing

Gameplay in Roommate Simulator is pretty simple. You use the WASD or arrow keys to move around, with the mouse controlling where you look. When you encounter an object you can interact with, a contextual command will pop up over it, you can do this by clicking the mouse button. As you interact with objects, your roommate will react. For instance, cooking for your roommate and giving them food will increase their happiness, while knocking over their furniture or getting in their way will make them unhappy. An emoji in the upper left-hand corner of the screen shows your roommate's current mood as well as the effect your actions are having on them. The graphics are simple and limited, and the game doesn't provide a lot of feedback, so most of the fun comes from trying to figure out just what you've done wrong.

Less of a game than a joke

Roommate Simulator lacks both graphical polish and gameplay depth, but that isn't what it's about: it's an absurd way to pass a short while.

PROS

  • Humorous concept
  • Amusingly chaotic outcomes

CONS

  • Simple unpolished graphics
  • Limited game depth
