Free Leopard style stacks for Windows

StandaloneStack is a little application for your windows desktop that gives you stacks similar to those in Apple's Mac OS X.

After downloading, it's necessary to follow some online instructions to get your stacks up and running. It might look complicated, but as long as you follow the instructions and don't think too much it'll work!

You can assign any folder you want to a stack, and put it in the tool bar. It will then pop up when clicked. It's a handy way to keep your most often used folders at the ready, and we found it worked fine in Windows. There's a choice between the tall stacks, and transluscent panel, as you find in Leopard on the Mac.

With add-ons like this you have to decide whether it's worth the hassle of setting them up, which is a little tricky, for the benefit of the pop up stacks. While they do look cool, they also look a little out of place in Windows, though with the right color scheme that could be fixed. They are also a bit awkward to edit.

If you're jealous of the cool stacks in OSX Leopard, but want to stick with your PC, StandaloneStack is for you, but for the general user, it may be too much bother than it's worth.
