A simple platform shoot 'em up with a message

"Listen up maggot. Your country is a war. You will be entering enemy territory soon." So begin the instructions to We Want YOU, a randomly generated platform shoot 'em up.

This game is played top to bottom - you a parachuted in, and make your way down platforms, avoiding or killing enemies, picking up power ups and weapons. Every game is different, as the levels are 'procedurally generated as you proceed'. The background style changes every so often, and after a while you will complete a day, and be given your stats as you carry on.

Like in real war, you only have one life, and if you die, you are given a funeral and a news story explaining what you did and who you have left behind. While you are playing, news headlines flash up, of the type we see in our newspapers when our countries are at war. Overall, We Want YOU is designed to make players think about what war is - but it does so lightly, and also manages to be a good platformer. Oddly, there are some pretty cool weapons, like sniper rifles and especially the flame thrower!

There are some fairly shocking things too, and it's certainly not a kids game despite its looks. We Want YOU has simple, tigh controls and manages to be fun and yet be much more subtle and successful in questioning players actions than big titles like Modern Warfare 2.

We Want YOU is a simple but well made platformer, that mixes humor and serious issues very well.
