In the United States diaspora, National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) research findings says that despite the progress made in some areas of math, the improvement on the basic arithmetic skills of American students are not as impressive as researchers expected. But why is there a focus on mental math? Because it is unique. Moreover, for teenagers and adults, strong arithmetic skills can be utilized in knowing the price of sale items, or computing for a tip, or how to split a bill among your friends when dining out. It just offers some sort of convenience because computing would be as easy as A-B-C.
