DID YOU KNOW?
Did you know that up-to-date browsers can protect you against phishing and malware attacks? The risk of getting exposed to attackers is high especially if you are not aware that the sites you are visiting are malicious. In fact, a Wombat Security’s latest report shows that 76% of organizations have encountered phishing attacks in 2017. The most popular form of phishing is the disguising of malicious attachments as fake invoices. This tactic tricks the users to open the phishing emails. Email is also considered the most used delivery vehicle for attackers. According to Symantec, the highest rate happened in 2016 in which 1 in 131 emails contained malware.
Meanwhile, a study shows that updated modern browsers feature Safe Browsing technology that alerts you when the web page you visit is suspected of being malicious. This means that it is up to you if you still wish to visit the site after being alerted of its possible risk. An example of a browser that features Safe Browsing technology or pre-check feature is Google Chrome. This technology works by doing a quick check against the list of suspected phishing and malware sites. This list is kept locally on your computer to protect your browsing privacy. Google will verify the match against the local list and the web page you are visiting. If there is a match, a red warning page will appear to inform you that the page is possibly dangerous.
