DID YOU KNOW?

Siddhartha Gautama ("Buddha") founded Buddhism in the late 6th century B.C.E.? It is the 4th largest religion in the world with prevalence in Asian countries. Siddhartha Gautama was the warrior son of a king and queen. At his birth, a soothsayer predicted that he might become a renouncer. A person that withdraws from the temporal life. He went on a series of four chariot rides where he first saw the more severe forms of human suffering. Old age, illness, and death (a corpse), as well as an ascetic renouncer. Despite his father's best efforts to prevent this, the young man came to a realization of his own. After severe months of renunciation, he achieved Nirvana or the State of Enlightenment. He gained the true answers to the causes of suffering and permanent release from it.

Buddhism came in many different forms and schools of thought. They are all still based on his teachings and the essence of it called "dharma". Buddhism almost became non-existent in India in the 12th century (C.E.). Its teaching has persisted and proved its spirituality in Asia. Various forms and practices have appeared for Buddhist practitioners. Buddhist apps are available for practitioners and newcomers alike. Spiritual activities like meditation helped come oneself of disruptive thoughts. The practice of mindfulness helps us focus on the present and what is happening around us. There are plenty of resources that we can use if we need them.
