DID YOU KNOW?
Did you know that Discord is regarded as the best voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) application for gaming? This claim is made by many gaming websites like Agatton and PCGamer? It earned its reputation as the leading VoIP software due to its lightweight and easy-to-use interface. Additionally, it also supports most operating systems, and is free of charge.
Discord was created by game development studio Hammer & Chisel. The aim of its creation is to simplify message-sending whilst playing games over the Internet. First released on May 2015, it gained success and popularity within eight months. It recorded more than 3 million unique users in January 2016 and raised at least $20 million in investments for development.
With the rise of multi-player online battle arena (MOBA) games, Discord’s service has seen an increase in users. This is due to most games in this genre requiring communication between teammates. In its third birthday on May 13, 2018, Discord announced it has 130 million registered users, 45 million of which created their accounts in 2017. The app has an average of 19 million daily users and oversees the sending of 15 billion messages per month. This count is a 250% increase from their 6 billion monthly messages back in in 2017. Additionally, more and more features are being made available for Discord, including moderator bots and voice changers. These features are what attracted users to the platform.
