DID YOU KNOW?
Did you know that social gaming began to rise on Facebook at around 2009? The success of social gaming was almost comparable to that of Nintendo’s that a lot of game applications started including their mobile games on Facebook such as the famous Farmville and Candy Crush, to name a few, which skyrocketed in the number of players in the early 2010’s. A game developer known to have grown exponentially on Facebook is Zynga.
Zynga is the creator of the games Texas Hold Em Poker and Mafia Wars. Although new Facebook games and game developers have emerged throughout the years, Zynga is known to be one of the first to pave the way for the growth of social gaming. One edge perceived in social gaming is the fact that aside from the gameplay itself, gamers can go on multiplayer wherein they can challenge their friends in real time instead of random people while being fully immersed in the game. A research from Statista states that the social gaming industry in the United States is worth $2.15 billion in 2017, on the other hand, the social gaming industry in Asia is worth $2.5 billion. Research also shows that users spend 15% of the time on Facebook in playing games. These figures come to show that social gaming on Facebook continues shaping the gaming industry up to this day.
