"Don't be fooled by the fame of the author. Stephen King's works are usually great reads, and he is one of my favorites, but this series is a mess. Feels more like a video game walk through than a real story. He did a wonderful job of building a deep and interesting world, and then filled it with one dimensional cardboard cutouts for characters. These books are trite and boring, something I never thought I could say about this author's work."

When your main character's selling point is he's unequaled, and you're not writing about Superman, it's pretty hard for mere mortals to really feel a connection. Still, the narrative did flow and I didn't feel as though my money was wasted in buying The Name of the Wind."

I've read Lord of the Rings, but what do I read now? I decided to give Peter Brett's "The Demon Cycle" a read since it fits in an interesting fantasy survival setting that appeals to me. Very few books make me want to spend every waking minute reading the next page to see what happens. This book series does that.
