WHAT'S THE MEANING?

Hidden object games are a subgenre of puzzle games. In hidden object games, the player is given a list of items that he must find within a picture. The scenes depicted in these kinds of games are purposely full of visual clutter to make it harder for the player to find the items, like the popular Where’s Waldo puzzle books. The strength of these point-and-click games relies on the story, which often veers into the dark side of the spectrum. The stories inject a sense of adventure into a mostly static game.

DID YOU KNOW?

Alice: Interactive Museum is the first hidden object game. Released in 1991 by Toshiba EMI, it was a point-and-click adventure game that was presented as a scavenger hunt. However, Mystery Case Files: Huntsville is credited with being the first hidden object game that set the tone and defined the genre. Huntsville was released in 2005, and since then Mystery Case Files have grown to include 16 other games in the series. Big Fish Studios, the game developer, estimates that since the release of the Huntsville, around 100 million people have downloaded MCF games. Hidden object games are popular in casual gaming, which in turn is the most preferred type of video game.
