WHAT'S THE MEANING

A simulation game is a category of games, designed to simulate real-world activities. A simulation game attempts to copy various activities from real life in the form of a game. It is done for various purposes such as training, analysis, or prediction.

DID YOU KNOW?

The game called Fortune Builder was the progenitor of the simulation game genre? Most would credit Will Wright's SimCity back in 1989 for this. While it was not accurate, this game played a big role in helping jump-start the genre. From then on, many other sub-genres appeared. From construction and management, life sims, to sports sims. The latter being a genre that game company, EA, specializes in. Simulation games have sort of taken a back seat since the emergence of FPS, RPG, and yes, including RTS games. There have been a few sim games released for consoles. The best PS4 games include sim games in them. PS4 strategy games and PS4 simulation games have something in common. Both genres feature titles from the makers of SimCity and Tycoon.

Outside of entertainment purposes, sim games have other benefits to science and learning. A good example is resource management games popularize by the Tycoon game series. It covered many themes related to animals, businesses, astronomy, and city building. These games also provide info and trivia derived from real-world facts and studies. These types of sim games make learning and research engaging and interesting. Regardless of what type of simulation you're into, chances are, there's one for you.
