"I love to play the video games and this one is about war so there is much action to be had. The name of it is the Total War: Arena and it is soo good! You can even play it for free, online with other people that are also online. It is a war simulation game and boy is it a fun one, you should play too!"

"I really liked the graphics of Don't Starve. Although everybody compares them to Tim Burton movies, they reminded me more of Edward Gorey. Basically, you're in a world where lots of normally cute things, like bunnies, are trying to kill you, and you have to kill them first in order to get anything to eat. The developers are constantly adding new parts of the world and new things for you to fight, so you'll never get bored - more likely just exhausted."

"As an armchair fan of the TV show, Survivor, Dont Starve is a fun game of survival where I can see how my choices affects my ability to survive. Whether it is my food, structures or or gathering other resources, this game shows me how my choices will either help me stay alive or not. Unlike the TV show, this game combines science and fun graphics, and creatures that make the adventure more entertaining."

"highly rated open world survival game"

    WHAT'S THE MEANING?

Open world games are forms of video games where a player or a group of players can explore a virtual world without running into invisible walls like in linear games. These open world games have boundaries but are often displayed as unsurpassable forms of land or water.

    DID YOU KNOW?

Did you know that Resident Evil, the 1996 game that streamlined the survival horror genre, was heavily influenced by the themes and gameplay of the 1992 PC game, Alone in the Dark? In 1992, French gaming company Infogrames released Alone in the Dark, an action horror game for MS-DOS. The game was set in the 1920s and the character is in a mansion in Louisiana, and the player must guide the character out of the dark and haunted mansion by slaying ghosts and monsters. Players can choose between Edward Carnby or Emily Hartwood as their character, who wakes up in the attic of the mansion and must find the way out, all the while battling slave zombies and giant bipedal rat monsters. Players can look for weapons to help in battle, but some monsters can be defeated with fists. The game was met with positive reception, with gaming magazine AllGame giving it 3.5 stars out of 5, while EGM scored it 8/10. Famitsu gave it 33/40 in their review and Next Generation rated it with 4 stars out of 5. It won three awards in the 1993 European Computer Trade SHow: Best Graphics, Most Original Game, and BEst French Game of the Year.

I would have to team up with other survivors in order to play, and while I might be interested in checking it out, I definitely wouldn't categorize it as "single player.""

I like the way the game forces you to learn programming and serious tactical play for the sake of play, in that way it's a lot slower and more methodical than others in the genre. You learn piece by piece and slowly, grinding out vital knowledge over time."

"DayZ is a gritty, authentic, open-world survival horror hybrid-MMO game, in which players follow a single goal: to survive in the harsh post-apocalyptic landscape as long as they can. Players can experience powerful events and emotions arising from the ever-evolving emergent gameplay. There are no superficial tips, waypoints, built in tutorials or help given to players. Every decision matters, there are no save games, no extra lives, every mistake can be lethal. If you fail, you lose everything and you need to play again from the beginning with nothing but your wits, and your two hands. Fight the hostile environment, where every other player can be friend or foe and nothing can be taken for granted."

Unlike other survival horror games where you have a constant supply of weapons and a small group of friends to support you, DayZ presents you with a realistic scenario. You spawn in some remote area without any supplies. You are faced with zombies - of course! However, other players in the huge world are also challenging. For example, I have played this game and been hunted and killed by other players, which to me is much scarier than playing against AI."

It looks like you have to follow a set destination to go through the game like in a story. Other than that, it looks like a solid recommendation for a horror survival game. I don’t have any experience with it, but the overall ratings look appealing and would be a decent solution for this problem."

"Try Fallout 3. It's got an open world game with horror elements and it has a lot of creative elements. The combat system is in real time. It's a good RPG game for people who play 1P."

"Not a very good solution as the game is not explicitly a horror game. Instead i would reccomend a game such as The Forest which does fit the description"

"So I was feeling adventurous but I don't like going outside so I wanted to find the best survival games that are open world base building horror single players for PC. After some research I ended up with DinoSytem and I can honestly say its a great game, its a 2D ecosystem and survival simulation, it quenched my thirst for adventure."

"I don't know why I bought this game. I wanted horror, but all I got was living with dinosaurs. The graphics are alright, but I guess I was thinking it would be more point of view instead of the looking-down I am always doing. There is no horror in this game either! I am slightly disappointed."

"I think the DinoSystem would be a very useful solution to the this problem. It looks like it would be very helpful in allowing these game players to manipulate the game to their own liking."

"Minecraft is a very popular open world base building game but the is lacking in the horror element. If you play on survival mode you might argue that it has a horror element to it, but it certainly isn't in the genre of Minecraft."

"As a huge gamer, my favorite genre of games are survival games which is why I decided to download Cataclysm Dark Days Ahead. I was hoping that this horror and survival game would pack all the punches that I look for in a game but sadly it failed to do so. The only reason I would recommend this game to anyone is because it is free, that is all it has going for it. Take my advice and just spend a few dollars and get something great!"
