    DID YOU KNOW?

Did you know that the first console that allowed online cross-platform video game experience was Sony Entertainment's PlayStation 2? In 2002, Sony introduced online play for the PS2 and supported cross-platform gaming with personal computers for the game Final Fantasy XI. It is for this reason why PS2 became a fan favorite and became the best-selling console of all time, with a record 155 million units sold since its release in 2000 up to the halting of its production in 2013. The console was the fastest to record 100 million in units sold since it only took PS2 five years and nine months to record the century mark. It became the dominant console in the market in the mid-2000s and even survived against the Nintendo GameCube and Microsoft's Xbox

One of the reasons why it became one of the longest-running consoles in production was the number of great titles launched during those years, as more than 3,874 games were produced for the consoles, and those games compiled for 1.5 billion sales throughout the years. The games included the platform-exclusive Grand Theft Auto, Final Fantasy, and Metal Gear Solid. PS2's popularity also gave a wide market for startup gaming franchises, including God of War, Devil May Cry, and Kingdom Hearts. This resulted in the rise of PS2 emulators because people wanted to play PS2 games that weren't available yet on other gaming consoles.
