The event, Dreamhack Winter, a three-day digital festival held in a giant hall in Sweden. LAN parties are pretty much an antiquated concept to most gamers today. A LAN (local area network) party is a local game session of gamers, to put it in simple terms. They would come together with their PCs in one place, connect to another, and play. Being local and connected through wires means no lag. That's why LAN parties host skill-based games like Quake and Unreal Tournament.

LAN features are pretty much non-existent today, save on a few old or smaller games. With Internet connection speeds getting better and better, online was the way to go. We've reached a point where you can play a game and experience little to no latency at all. Besides, games today need a constant connection. It's either for downloading content or their progression system in place. The closest thing we get today is local multiplayer games. They still rely on an internet connection though. Another option would be on consoles like the Xbox One and PS4. There are some local co-op multiplayer games for the PS4 with some not needing a connection. They run from the console itself and support up to 4 players.
