That the real-time strategy game genre originated way back in 1981? Prior to the mid-1990s, strategy games were almost always turned based while action games were in real time, and the two genres seldom met. Back then, they were considered to be incompatible elements within a game, with strategy games being rooted in the tradition of complicated and drawn-out tabletop war games and the latter being a simple yet consistent test of reflexes and coordination, staying true to video game arcades. Strategy games were slow and well thought-out, rendering the idea of coupling it with real-time elements that would virtually force players into instant, impulsive, and potentially dangerous situations ridiculous. That is, until Don Daglow developed the groundbreaking Intellivision game Utopia, released in 1981, which was seen as the father of the real-time strategy - shortened to RTS - genre. The game brought two warring island nations against each other in a war that required players not only to defeat your opponent, but also to keep other in-game elements like natural disasters, military, infrastructure, and morale, along with all the consequences of every action they make.

The factors and features implemented in Utopia paved the way for modern real-time strategy games that have hit the markets and gained popularity today.
