It can be difficult to find modern RTS games, but Northgard did an OK job helping me solve this problem. I liked that it had a someone unconventional but interesting setting and cast of characters compared to most titles in this genre, and that it was deep enough to be replayable but also easy enough to play with almost total newcomers. I like Paradox's RTS games but Hearts of Iron IV definitely gets some mixed feelings from me. On the one hand I find it easier to get into the WWII setting better than the earlier eras in their other games on the other the AI in this game is just dumb. You can easily find yourself fighting a country whose army is diddling around in no mans land (who also just declared war against someone they can't effectively reach) while your allies can barely even bother to marshal any forces to fight with. This is a vintage RTS game that still looks fairly good today. It may have older graphics but all the desirable elements of an RTS game are still there. It requires quick reactions, and keeps the brain active and searching for quick tactical solutions. Starcraft provides enough of an adrenaline rush for most people but is easy to learn and is free of excessive amounts of micro-management. Play vs computer opponents (no internet) or human (Battlenet - online). The game is quick and easy to start and usually lasts 15 to 30 minutes. Excellent value for a free game. More
