movie facts

The idea for the film crossed Curtis’ mind while he was having lunch with a friend. Their conversation suddenly became centered on the subject of happiness. Curtis admitted that he was not really happy in his life. This conversation led him to write a film about how one can achieve happiness in life. Believing the concept was too simple, he added an element of time travel to the film. The production initially approached several effect experts to add a spectacle look to the time traveling effect. However, the outcome did not sit well with the production team. Instead, they chose a subtler look. According to Curtis, the original effects made the film an anti-time travel movie because it utilized all possible time travel elements, but it did not give a feeling that its genre was science fiction. Rachel McAdams was not the original Mary in the filmmakers’ mind; Zooey Deschanel was also considered for the role. About Time' original schedule of release was on May 10, 2013, but it was postponed to November 1 of the same year. Ultimately, the film was released in the U.K. on September 4, 2013. It performed moderately in the box office, garnering only $87 million against a production budget of $12 million. It also had a generally positive reception.
