The story begins with a family living in Chicago, composed of Paul Kersey, a surgeon played by Bruce Willis, along with his wife Lucy, played by Elisabeth Shue and his daughter Jordan, played by Camila Morrone. One day, the valet driver Miguel, played by Luis Oliva, overhear a conversation from the family about a night out together and decide to get their address from the GPS in their car. When the family is going out together, plans are canceled as Paul has an emergency at his job, and his daughter and wife head back home. The girls confront three burglars in their house, resulting in Lucy's death and Jordan in a coma. As the police investigate the case, Paul becomes frustrated with the slow progress of police work and decides to take justice into his own hands, becoming obsessed with vigilante justice around the city.

The movie received a lot of negative reviews, mostly based on how it portrayed the American gun culture in a good light, considering the timing of its release: three weeks after a mass shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida, that left 14 dead. Death Wish is a movie franchise based on a 1972 novel written by Brian Garfield. There have been six movies that belong to this franchise, having the latest one being a remake of the original film. A video game with the same name (Death Wish) was created from the third film of the series by Gremlin Graphics, where the player can control the main character Paul Kersey to fight gangsters and even kill civilians.
