The World Health Organization (WHO) defines a healthy body weight as being within the range of 18-24 kg/kg. In the US, the National Health Service (NHS) recommends a healthy weight for men is between 18.5 and 24.9 kg/kg, and for women, it is between 16.5 and 23.4 kg/kg. These values change according to your gender and age.

The most common health problems related to overweight are high blood pressure and cholesterol, joint and muscular pain or stiffness, heart disease, and diabetes.

The Body Mass Index (BMI) is a number that describes your body weight based on height and weight. A BMI of 25 or higher is considered overweight, and a BMI of 30 or higher is considered obese.

The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that health professionals ask patients their BMI, and then provide guidance on how to lose weight.
