Spaceman was supposed to have been released several months ago, but the actors and writers strike changed their plans. Now, on March 1, 2024, the film is being released on Netflix and it’s hard to tell if it’s good or not.

The first reviews have started to arrive for Adam Sandler’s film for Netflix and we don’t really know if the movie is bad or good, since no one agrees.

Adam Sandler’s latest film is quite different from his previous direct-to-Netflix films, such as Murder Mystery (2019), Claw (2022), and You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah (2023).

Sandler plays Jakub Prochazka, an astronaut on a solo mission on the edge of the solar system who encounters an ancient arachnid creature on his spaceship.

Jakub establishes an unlikely relationship with the gigantic arachnid figure named Hanus, voiced by Paul Dano (There Will Be Blood, Little Miss Sunshine), and it becomes a slice-of-life film… but in the middle of an extraterrestrial planet.

In Rotten Tomatoes it only has a 57% approval rating with 63 professional reviews, it gets a 6 out of 10 on IMDb and on Filmaffinity it has more negative opinions than positive ones.

These loose notes will not pose any problem for Adam Sandler, who signed a long-term contract with Netflix a while ago to star in movies for years in exchange for exclusivity. In 2020, he signed with the streaming giant to make 6 more films.
