Localization is one of the most important and thankless jobs for any product. Understanding the particularities of each region where our products will be launched is an important part of their success or failure. Knowing how to adapt certain small elements to convey the same sensations in two very different places is quite an art. One that seems to have started to be considered at Devolver Digital.
The Plucky Esquire is a game developed by All Possible Futures and published by Devolver Digital that is going to have a name change. Not because there is anything wrong with it, but because it will be adapted for five different regions. In Spain and Latin America it will be called El Escudero Valiente. In France, Le Vaillant Petit Page. In Brazil and Portugal, O Escudeiro Valente. And in Russia, ОТВАЖНЫЙ ПАЖ. In the rest of the territories it will continue to be called The Plucky Esquire, including English-speaking countries.
What is the reason for this change? According to Devolver, “to make it easier to pronounce for our international friends”. Although it is not difficult to notice that, also, this particular game benefits from having a translated name. Since in its translations it gives more of a feeling of being a children’s story like the one that shapes the game.
The Brave Squire is an adventure, action, and puzzle game set within a story, where we will navigate between the 2D world of the book and the 3D world outside of it. The game will have versions for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Although we do not have an exact release date yet, we do know the approximate timeframe for it: late 2024.
