In the world of gaming, Japanese game designers are highly recognized, while American authors are somewhat less acknowledged. However, European authors are practically forgotten. The industry tends to narrate its history around what happened in the US and, to a lesser extent, in Japan, often overlooking what was done in Europe and by European developers who were disconnected from the American industry.

One of the great European authors in video game history is Jeff Minter. This legendary British creator, responsible for some of the most important games of the 80s and 90s like Gridrunner, Centipede, or Tempest 2000, is set to receive a comprehensive tribute encompassing all the games from the first twenty years of his career. A game titled “Llamasoft: The Jeff Minter Story.”

“Llamasoft: The Jeff Minter Story” is the second installment of the Gold Master Series, a series of video games serving as a compilation-documentary. The first installment was dedicated to recounting the development history of the legendary Karateka. In this collection, not only are the original games replicated, but documentaries featuring developers and other involved individuals are included, along with original documents and even remasters of the games.

In the case of “Llamasoft: The Jeff Minter Story,” in addition to all this documentary work, it will include 42 classic games by Jeff Minter spanning eight different platforms from the 80s and 90s. Additionally, it features a new version of Gridrunner, called Gridrunner: Remastered, created by the studio responsible for the collection, Digital Eclipse.

“Llamasoft: The Jeff Minter Story” will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC in early 2024. If you’re interested in the history of video games, these are the kind of games you can’t afford to miss.
