If there’s one thing Apple is famous for, it’s for making good products… and never lowering their prices. When someone wants to get an iPhone or an Apple Watch at a good price, they have to buy last year’s version, because that’s the only time Tim Cook loosens up a bit.

However, in an unusual and perhaps necessary move, the company has decided to offer attractive concessions to customers residing in China, probably to compensate for the ongoing decline in smartphone sales.

With Huawei’s arrival in the region, things could get much more difficult, so offering discounts is a way to shift the momentum in favor of the company.

A discount that is not great, but it’s something

The discounts can reach up to 500 yuan, or approximately 70 dollars or 55 euros, depending on the Apple product being purchased.

With the Lunar New Year approaching, starting in February, Apple is running a promotion from January 18th to 21st, with discounts applied to everything, including the high-end iPhone 15 Pro Max from the tech giant.

Other products such as Macs, iPads, AirPods, and Apple Watch models will also receive discounts up to 500 yuan, or 70 dollars, depending on what is purchased.

It is rare to see the Cupertino firm offering price cuts on products or services through its online channels and physical stores, but given that Apple suffered a double-digit drop in iPhone sales in China, not to mention that analysts have forecasted that this decline will continue until 2024, it makes sense to lower several products.

One of the many challenges that await Apple this year is the resurgence of Huawei. The former Chinese giant has returned to its territory with strength thanks to its in-house developed Kirin 9000S found in the Mate 60 series.

There were occasions when Huawei’s flagship surpassed Apple’s iPhone 15 range in late 2023, which would make the latter nervous for obvious reasons, as China is the largest smartphone market in terms of sheer volume and is of paramount importance to Apple.
