This is how SGE, the generative search powered by AI, works.

It’s a fact that artificial intelligence will (and is currently) changing the way we search for information on the Internet. Microsoft made a move by integrating GPT-4 into its new Bing chat, and now it’s Google’s turn. The company has announced the launch of a new feature through its blog: the ability to create images directly from the search bar.
The operation is very similar to Bing’s chat. We only need to provide a detailed description of the image we want to obtain. The results can be refined later by making adjustments to the description, and if we like them, we can save them.
This tool is called SGE (Search Generative Experience) and, for now, it’s only available to a few users. Google is aware of the unethical uses this technology might have, and they state that they will censor any content that doesn’t adhere to their policies. This means we won’t see deepfakes, violent images, or content promoting hatred towards other ethnicities, for example.
The use of SGE will completely change how we interact with Google Images, for instance. This means that when a user decides to search for a specific image, the AI will show them generations based on the context of their search.

Many might wonder why Google took so long to implement these options when its competitors have already integrated them months ago. The truth is that the company took its time due to all the uproar and controversies generated by AI since its popularization (ethical concerns, questionable data sources, how it affects their business model, etc.). However, it seems that all of this has taken a back seat.
The uses of SGE go far beyond that; in August, Chrome integrated it to offer the possibility of summarizing articles and news in a matter of seconds. Called SGE while browsing, it helps us understand complex texts and highlight their most important points so that you don’t miss anything.
