There is no doubt: ChatGPT is an incredible and revolutionary tool, but it is still far from being perfect. Despite the few flaws it may have in appearance, there is one that stands out easily and that is its short “memory“. Repeating over and over again how to execute certain commands and requests is something that can become tedious over time. To solve this, OpenAI wants to make ChatGPT “remember.”

As specified by OpenAI in their blog, now you control ChatGPT’s memory. The goal is for us to be able to ask the chatbot to store specific details so you don’t have to repeat them in every request.

In addition, we will also be able to ask him what he remembers about us and even ask him to forget it if we want. And if you prefer that he doesn’t store any data about you, you will always have the option to disable this functionality in its settings.

According to OpenAI, the memory of ChatGPT will improve as you use it. In a real-life situation, this functionality would be used as follows:

  • Imagine you are working with Javascript. In your requests, you always specify to ChatGPT to help you write lines of code in Javascript. From now on, you will be able to ask ChatGPT to remember that you always use Javascript. This way, you will save yourself from asking for it over and over again.

Currently, OpenAI is already testing the new capabilities of the chatbot with a small group of free users and subscribers to ChatGPT Plus. The rest of the world will still have to wait for its global launch.
