Peter Molyneux is undoubtedly a rather peculiar individual. The founder of Lionhead Studios can boast of being responsible for major titles such as Black & White, Dungeon Keeper, and Fable. However, his reputation within the video game industry as a showman and exaggerator has only worsened over time. Now, Molyneux has a new game in the works, Project MOAT. Will this serve as a redemption in the eyes of players?
From his Xbox profile, Molyneux briefly mentioned MOAT while announcing another piece of news: the launch of his personal blog. Through this blog, the developer intends to open up and discuss his “peculiar” way of designing video games. However, the “announcement” of MOAT didn’t really come as a surprise to anyone.
Molyneux had already revealed the existence of MOAT during the past summer, although back then we didn’t know its name until now. True to form, Molyneux has already begun fueling the hype machine by announcing that MOAT will feature a gameplay mechanic like never before seen.
Molyneux’s return to the media spotlight comes after a decade of staying away from the press. The developer stated that he “really missed those days of being out there, publicly exploring what a game is all about.” Although MOAT might not be the last game he makes, he did indicate that “time is running out” for him. “I feel like [MOAT] has to be something that represents various segments of my career and the many games I’ve been fortunate to work on.” For Molyneux, MOAT is a quite “significant” project.
Meanwhile, Fable continues its development at Playground Games. At the moment, all we have is the trailer presented at the Xbox Games Showcase in 2023, but not much else. This new Fable will be released on both PC and Xbox Series X and S.
