Dyson showcases the CleanTrace feature in the video we provide below. As you can see, it works by connecting the phone to the vacuum cleaner using a special holder and opening the MyDyson app.

Next, when you start vacuuming, Dyson’s augmented reality technology comes into play to show the exact area you have vacuumed by coloring it purple, in real time, as you move around the room. Did you miss something? Well, go back and vacuum over it to color it purple (the brand’s color for some time now).

“Dyson CleanTrace and the Dyson Gen5detect vacuum cleaner combine to make the invisible visible, identifying areas that have not been cleaned and displaying the cleaning proof directly on the phone,” Dyson explains in a presentation message of the new feature.

Charlie Park, Vice President of Engineering at Dyson, said that his team was inspired by the methodical cleaning approach of their vacuum robots in the methodical cleaning approach of their vacuum robots, and added that “unlike most humans who do the cleaning, Dyson robots know where they are in the room, where they have been, and where they have yet to go.”

A study conducted by the company showed that people tend to overestimate their vacuuming time, as around 80% of cleaning sessions last less than 10 minutes, although people claim to vacuum an average of 24 minutes each time.

It’s probably because it’s boring and feels like it drags on. Taking this into account, CleanTrace could bring some fun to the task, because we all know that somehow this is very easy to turn into a game (vacuuming gold coins like we’re Mario Bros?).
