It has been a wild few days at Twitter HQ since Elon Musk took over. While we all ponder whether he would have ever been hired by the company if he hadn’t bought it, he has been pushing ahead with big changes including sacking the CEO and CFO and putting himself in charge, clearing out most of the staff, and taking to the social network to discuss new ideas such as charging verified users a monthly fee to keep their blue ticks and even a high-risk strategy to allow users to share NSFW adult content video behind paywalls.
There is some good news for the average user, however, as it looks like Musk is planning to roll out the Edit tweet button, which is currently only available for Twitter Blue users who have to pay $5 a month, to all users.
The internet, and Twitter itself, is seemingly split on Musk’s move to take over Twitter with some people thinking him to be a giga-brained genius on the way to revolutionizing app use in the West and others calling him out as being an impulsive idiot who has been forced to pay over the odds for a social network that he doesn’t really understand.
We are not siding with either of those camps, but we do want to highlight for our readers that scammers have long targeted verified accounts as they can use them to run phishing scams on regular users. They have even been known to spend hundreds of dollars to get their hands on them. All this means that if anybody is able to pay $8 a month for a verified blue tick, there is a very high likelihood that Twitter will soon become a much more dangerous place.
However, we do want to celebrate that regular Twitter users may soon be able to finally use an edit tweet button. The option to edit tweets after they have been posted has historically been one of the most requested features by Twitter users. We’ve recently tracked it through the testing phase, and then as it moved into a wider rollout to Twitter Blue subscribers. Now, however, if the reports coming out of Twitter HQ are true, all Twitter users may soon have access to the feature.
