Since Hideo Kojima left Konami, the Metal Gear company has been little more than a background thought. It is true that they released Metal Gear Survive, which was very poorly received, and they have recently released Metal Gear Solid Collection, which is a compilation that could be greatly improved. It is also true that they could dedicate a little more care and attention to one of their biggest franchises. As a matter of fact, their fans do.

Mitchell Hammond is an animator who has created a series of short vignettes inspired by the Metal Gear games for MSX, as well as other Hideo Kojima games for the computer, such as Snatcher or Policenauts. With a style that takes us back to early 90s anime, it also has a similar style to modern works of retro inspiration like Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix.

However, Hammond’s videos are not only about Metal Gear. Some of his videos seem to be inspired by other MSX works, particularly by Hideo Kojima, with references and cameos of all kinds. Including a hilarious reference to Penguin Adventure, the first video game Hideo Kojima worked on as a designer in his entire career.

That’s why, if you are a fan of Hideo Kojima and, particularly, of his early works, you shouldn’t miss Hammond’s videos. Because even though Konami is not taking care of its own legacy, that doesn’t mean that fans are not doing it for them.
