The distributor, Electronic Arts, and the developer, Full Circle, have given new and expected news regarding the new skateboarding game called: Skate 4. This is news because we haven’t heard anything about it for months.

The EA and Full Circle teams showed off the mechanics and activities that players will enjoy when the game launches… at an undetermined time in the future.

That’s right, no matter how much announcement and novelty they bring us, we still have no release date for the new Skate: it is a game that is still in full development. The only clue is that the first technical test for consoles is near.

Skate 4 is in pre-pre-alpha. I.e.: green

Full Circle on Thursday showed off new “pre-pre-alpha gameplay” snippets of the new Skate, and talked about what players can expect as they skate around the city of St. Vansterdam.

They explained some of the types of activities we will encounter in the game, such as challenges, which are described as “short, rotating solo experiences” that will change over time:

  • Pop-ups, dynamic events designed to be cooperative experiences.
  • Community events, in which large groups of skaters participate..
  • Throwdowns, user-initiated and customizable activities in which players can meet, compete and cooperate.

The creators have pointed out that Skate’s activities are not limited by “our reality,” so expect things to get a little crazy in the game.

The developers also discussed variations of challenges, including those focused on climbing, i.e. taking advantage of the verticality of the skates, and others such as Tag, group activity games.

The Skate team also coined the term “flumping” to describe what players will do off their boards. Flumping is a mix of “flicking” and “jumping,” and involves the use of urban platforms and the exploration that will take place when not skating directly.

Skate 4: a game as a service?

Full Circle has re-emphasized that their version of Skate will be a living, growing game, and that progression and rewards are central to their design plan – “expect something different every day, week or season.”

The new Skate was officially confirmed in 2020, after a year-long fan campaign. In 2021, EA announced the team creating the new Skate. The new Skate will come to consoles and PC, but no date at the moment.
