Today is a sad day for fans of space horror. EA has denied the rumors confirming the development of a remake of Dead Space 2 before it was canceled. This was clarified by a spokesperson for the company to IGN, where they firmly state that “there is no validity to this story“.

This response from EA comes after reports from Jeff Grubb, which claimed that EA Motive was working on conceptual art for Dead Space 2. These reports also suggested that the project had been canceled due to the alleged low sales of the first Dead Space. However, the truth is that there were never any serious plans to remake Dead Space 2.

According to Jason Schreier, EA Motive spent a few months “conceiving ideas” to develop a new installment of Dead Space. Sadly, this never came to fruition, partly due to the poor performance of the remake of the first Dead Space. The team began exploring other ideas “while most of the developers who worked on Dead Space were dedicated to other projects.” Additionally, the journalist clarified in X that “the main hope was a new game, not a remake of Dead Space 2,” although both ideas were considered.

The Dead Space remake was released in early 2023 and received very good reviews from both users and specialized critics. The title prompted fans to wonder if there would be another remake, but based on Dead Space 2.

On the other hand, EA announced that Motive is in the process of creating a new team led by the developers of the Dead Space remake, Roman Campos-Oriola and Philipe Ducharme. The goal is to provide support for both multiplayer and single-player modes for Battlefield Universe.
