On January 17th, we celebrated our annual appointment with Samsung, the Samsung Unpacked, to learn about their new devices in depth. As expected, the Korean brand officially presented the Galaxy S24 series along with diverse products such as the Galaxy Ring. However, much of the attention was focused on Galaxy AI, Samsung’s artificial intelligence.
Galaxy AI is the big bet of the Korean brand to enter the artificial intelligence sector. Some of its most interesting features include real-time call translation or smart searches. However, there has been one feature that has generated debate among users, the Generative Edit.
Thanks to Samsung’s software, we will be able to edit our photos and images in a much more intuitive, fast and effective way thanks to the use of AI. Moving people around or simply removing any element from a photo will be an extremely easy task thanks to Generative Editing. In addition, each image edited by AI would include a watermark and changes in its metadata to make its origin clear.
However, the great effectiveness of Generative Editing has left a halo of concern among some users. In an interview conducted by TechRadar with Patrick Chomet, director of customer experience at Samsung, he positioned himself in favor of this technology and emphasized the ethical approach that the company had regarding artificial intelligence.
Chomet is clear about it: “There is no real image“. He explains that “you can try to define what a real image is by saying ‘I took that photo’, but if you have used AI to optimize the zoom, autofocus, the scene, is it real? Or are they all filters? There is no real image, period“.
Regarding the regulation of AI and its uses, Chomet clarifies that Samsung supports the regulations that Europe has imposed on AI and points out that, above all, “the industry must be responsible and regulated“.
