It’s the most anticipated game of the decade. Everyone is eager for its release, looking forward to trying a new GTA game after over 10 years since the successful GTA V. However, the reality is that we are far, very far, from the launch.

It’s worth mentioning that there are plenty of Grand Theft Auto 6 rumors out there, most of which aren’t worth paying attention to. However, Jason Schreier from Bloomberg has reported on its scale and scope, even mentioning that its main storyline is influenced by the infamous duo of robbers, Bonnie and Clyde.

This has led many to speculate about the possibility of having two protagonists in Grand Theft Auto 6, one male and one female, which is further supported by the infamous leaks of early GTA 6 gameplay.

A cooperative campaign for the first time in two decades

Indeed, there are even details suggesting that the female protagonist is a Latina woman named Lucía, and other rumors point to the male character being named Jason.

In any case, it’s intriguing that Grand Theft Auto 6 seems to feature two protagonists. Considering Bonnie and Clyde were crime partners, if there is a connection, it would make sense for players to engage in bank heists with both characters simultaneously.

However, there are many single-player games with AI-managed companions, such as Kratos and Atreus or Joel and Ellie, but these setups typically establish a clear hierarchy.

If GTA 6 features protagonists like Bonnie and Clyde, such a hierarchy cannot exist. Instead, it seems likely that players may be able to switch between them on the fly. Otherwise, there would be no essential difference between the protagonist duo of GTA 6 and the protagonist trio of GTA 5, given the distinct and often separate narrative of the latter.

However, if the intention is to tell a combined story in which players can alternate between both characters, it wouldn’t be unreasonable to expect that the main storyline of GTA 6 might include a cooperative mode.

And the entire setup would suggest that the two players could work together within the confines of a true cooperative mode. It wouldn’t be something whimsical or as vast as GTA Online, but each character would have to be significant, unlike GTA San Andreas.

Of course, these are just speculations, but GTA 6 could be the moment for Rockstar to make its mark in the world of traditional cooperative gameplay, just as it has done with its single-player games.
