If you’ve been chomping at the bit to find out how the series continues since the end of the first season of House of the Dragon… you’re in luck: they’ve just announced that they’ve already started working on it.

Although we don’t know the most important thing about the second season (when it will premiere), we have just learned that production has begun. That is to say, and translated from audiovisual slang: filming can be considered to have begun.

Ryan Condal, co-creator / showrunner / executive producer, has just announced that: “House of the Dragon is back. We are thrilled to be back shooting with members of the original family, as well as new talent on both sides of the camera”. With these words, the new season has been kicked off.

And their statements give us a small glimpse of what’s to come in 2024: “all your favorite characters will soon be plotting again at council tables, marching with their armies and riding their dragons into battle. We can’t wait to share what we have in store.”

What is the Game of Thrones prequel about?

For those who have not seen the series. This series takes us 172 years before Daenerys Targaryen, in the ninth year of the reign of Viserys Targaryen, a king whose line of succession is in jeopardy. His wife Aemma is pregnant, though there is no guarantee that she will give birth to a male heir.

If she does not the Iron Throne will fall either to Viserys’ brother Daemon, an impulsive and potentially tyrannical ruler; or, breaking with the tradition of male preference, to Viserys’ teenage daughter Rhaenyra, whose claim to the throne is destined to meet with strong opposition.

At stake is to regain the viewership record on HBO Max that was stolen from The Last of Us a few weeks ago.
