Hogwarts Legacy has been the big hit of the first few months of 2023. Avalanche’s game has already sold more than 12 million copies, with many more to be added from today, following the game’s re-release on old gen consoles: PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
With such overwhelming success, Warner Bros. itself has stated its intention to continue working on new video games in the Harry Potter saga, and just this week we have learned of what could be the future Hogwarts Legacy 2 or another video game set in the magical world of Harry Potter.
Warner Bros. has posted a job opening on its job board seeking a software engineer to join the Avalanche ranks to work on “an unannounced AAA console title“.
“Acquired by Warner Bros. in 2016, we’re on top of our game and in the midst of creating a new single-player, open-world action RPG experience set in the magical world of 1800: Hogwarts Legacy!” details Avalanche’s job posting. “As a member of our studio’s engineering team, you will collaborate with designers, artists and other engineers to develop immersive game experiences with industry-leading visual effects.”
At the moment, there is no further information about this future job, although what we do know is that the job would not be to work on a Hogwarts Legacy DLC, given that there is talk of a “title”. Furthermore, Avalanche itself confirmed a few days after the release of the Harry Potter video game that “there are no plans for DLC at the moment”.
If Hogwarts Legacy 2 were to be released, many players could see their dream of playing quidditch, a famous game of the magical world that is not part of Hogwarts Legacy and whose refusal is explained in the story itself, come true. In addition to quidditch, we could also expect a much wider range of spells, with more combinations and devastating effects.
Be that as it may, it doesn’t look like we’ll be hearing more about a possible sequel for a long time, at least officially. For now, we can only dream.
