For weeks, rumors had been hinting at a new Netflix price hike, and now we can confirm that it has become a reality. The streaming platform will again raise its rates in several countries, affecting only two of its plans for the time being.
As of today, the countries affected by the price hike will be the United States, United Kingdom, and France, although it’s highly likely that these changes will eventually impact Spain sooner rather than later. According to the document published by Netflix, the final prices would be as follows:
While Spain has escaped these increases for now, it’s not surprising that it might follow in France’s footsteps eventually. The price hike will take effect next week and will impact both new and existing Netflix subscribers.
In the document shared by the company, they clarify that their initial prices are “extremely competitive compared to other streaming platforms.” They also argue that, at least in the United States, $6.99 is still “much less than the average price of a movie ticket.”
What caused Netflix to raise prices so suddenly? Everything points to the recent Hollywood actors and writers strike. The Wall Street Journal reported that after the strike’s conclusion, Netflix would proceed to raise its prices. Last month, the Writers Guild of America ended the protests after reaching an agreement with services like Netflix.
Fortunately, it’s not all about price increases. Netflix has also enhanced its Basic plan with Ads and introduced new features such as content downloads.
