Megalodon, officially titled The Meg as an irony, was one of the most watched movies of all of 2018. It managed to raise more than 500 million dollars and was placed in the top thanks to its action in abundance and the terror of monsters represented by the gigantic sea creature turned into a mixture between shark and dinosaur.

Now, Warner wants to continue exploiting this great success with Meg 2: The Trench. With Ben Wheatley at the helm -Free Fire, Kill List, In the Earth-, the film to be released on August 4 has just unveiled its first trailer. And it certainly looks to be a much bigger film than its predecessor.

Larger than the original Megalodon

In the trailer we have everything we could expect from a movie like Megalodon 2. It begins with the creature, in its prehistoric origins, eating a T-Rex in one bite: this way, the whole Jurassic Park dynasty is killed off, and it is made clear that we are facing something much bigger and much more dangerous than the dinosaurs themselves.

Then it’s time to introduce our action hero: Jason Statham. After playing the role of Navy rescue diver Jonas Taylor in the first film, the renowned action actor returns to his role stronger than ever. Not only does he take on the giant bug, but he also gives him time to work out and do some handstands.

The film promises to be much bigger than the previous one, but also with a more relaxed tone, perhaps closer to Sharknado than Jaws. Undoubtedly, after seeing how their audience reacted to the first feature film, Warner wanted to go a step further and have not been afraid to add comedy.

Megalodon 2 will arrive on August 4 in theaters around the world. It seeks, once again, to be the summer blockbuster that everyone expects: fresh and with all the intention of not setting foot on a beach again until 2024. Let’s hope they don’t succeed too much, because this year the heat wave is coming in strong.
