One of the great advantages of the Apple ecosystem is that Steve Jobs’ company computers have the ability to run iPhone and iPad applications on their Macintosh computers (for the younger ones, we are talking about Macs: iMac and MacBook).
This, which has many real-life applications, for baseball fans meant being able to use the iPad version of the MLB app on macOS.
Unfortunately, this 2024 MLB season is off to a rough start for Mac users who rely on the useful and comprehensive iPad app on their computer (nothing like watching baseball on a 24″ screen instead of a 10-inch one).
History of an app withdrawal: we’ll leave fixing it for another day
When the season started last month, the iPad version of the MLB app was available on the Mac App Store, but it crashed when logging in.
Last week, MLB sent an update for the iPad application. At first glance, it seemed to fix the macOS bugs… but it turned out not to be the case. Nevertheless, the application was available on the Mac App Store.
Now, MLB has addressed the issue. Their solution? Completely remove the MLB app from Mac. Third strike and you’re out.
If you go to the Mac App Store and search for the MLB application, you will see that it is no longer available. Instead of fixing the problem, MLB has taken its ball and gone home. Like many other developers, they have decided to uncheck the box that allows their iPad app to work on Mac.
Maybe the MLB app will return to the Mac App Store at some point, but MLB has left us in the dark for now. And that’s a real shame. Of course, you can still watch the games from the MLB website.
