A trailer for the Netflix adaptation of One Hundred Years of Solitude has been released. The highly anticipated adaptation of Gabriel García Márquez’s novel will arrive on the platform later this year, 2024.

The multigenerational story follows the Buendía family and narrates the foundation of the mythical city of Macondo. For me, one of the books that has made me vibrate the most in a chair.

A series that has to be really good to live up to the book

The series, which was filmed in Spanish, was shot in Colombia with the support of the Márquez family, whose acclaimed novel has sold over 50 million copies and has been translated into 40 languages.

Netflix released a short teaser in 2022 to coincide with the 40th anniversary of Márquez’s Nobel Prize in Literature, but the new teaser reveals much more than back then. For example, the trailer starts exactly as the novel starts.

The new video shows Aureliano Babilonia reading from the mythical diary of Melquiades before transporting viewers to Macondo to witness Colonel Aureliano Buendía facing a firing squad while remembering the afternoon his father took him to discover ice.

As mentioned earlier, in 2019 it was announced that Netflix had acquired the rights to adapt the book, which had not been previously adapted for the screen. Netflix has stated that their series “is one of the most ambitious projects in Latin America to date, made by the most talented artists from Colombia and LATAM”.
