The phone case industry has just been shaken by a fierce lawsuit from one of the most important YouTubers in the United States against the most powerful American company in the casing industry.

Zack Nelson’s company, Dbrand, has sued the multimillion-dollar company Casetify for plagiarizing a bunch of their unique designs. And the evidence is more than evident.

A situation that blew up yesterday

Zack Nelson posted a YouTube video explaining all the drama and how Casetify blatantly stole their designs. The evidence Nelson presented to the public was more than enough to conclude it was an obvious theft.

Nelson even mentioned how he’s not the only one doing teardowns and DIY skin or case repairs, that not all ideas are super original. However, what the case manufacturer did was take the exact designs as they were and simply paste them onto their own cases.

As mentioned earlier, all designs by Nelson and Dbrand have various Easter eggs, such as frequent quotes from Nelson’s YouTube channel, Dbrand’s founding date, their logo, and even Dbrand’s famous pyramid.

Casetify copied each and every one of these elements, and although they tried to hide some of the more obvious ones, they didn’t do a good job either. Below, you can see a series of tweets from Dbrand explaining the situation.

Both Zack Nelson and Dbrand have filed a multimillion-dollar lawsuit against Casetify for copyright infringement. Meanwhile, the cases have been removed from the website, and there hasn’t been any official announcement about it.

Last night, even the website was down for quite a while. Lawsuits like this are much more common than one might think. However, there’s usually a gray area involved. In this case, there’s no doubt; there has been plagiarism.
