Shazam, the popular music recognition app from Apple, has received an update that allows it to identify and recognize songs playing on third-party apps on your iPhone or iPad. Whether you’re using TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, or other platforms, knowing the song you’re listening to is now as easy as tapping a button.

A button to know exactly what song we are listening to

Until now, to identify a song playing on a third-party app, we needed a second device to listen to the playback. It could be an iPad and an iPhone or an iPhone and a Mac, for example, but never the same device where the music was playing.

Now, with this new update, we can open Shazam, tap the blue button, switch to the app we were using, and discover the song that is playing when we return to Shazam. The app uses the microphone of the iPhone itself to listen to the song, and it can do so while using another app that plays the music through the speakers.

In a matter of seconds, we can find out exactly which melody was playing. And if we need an even quicker access, we have that too. Instead of exiting the app, searching for Shazam, and going back to it, we can access the song recognition system directly from the Control Center of our iPhone or iPad. This way, without even pausing the playback, we will have an identification.

Let’s remember, though, that we need to add the Shazam option to the Control Center from Settings > Control Center in order to use it. Once we have done that and after the app has gone through the recent update, knowing what we are listening to will be easier than ever. With all the advantages that Shazam offers, such as adding the identified content to a specific playlist in Apple Music to listen to it in the Music app or in Apple Music Classical, adding it or sharing it later. Clearly, this is great news for the app and for all of us who want to know what is playing.
