Seven years after the untimely passing of Carrie Fisher, her final film, Wonderwell, will have a limited theatrical release and will also be available on television. It seems that Fisher’s last adventure doesn’t warrant a full theatrical release.

Carrie Fisher had just completed filming the movie before getting ready to reprise her role as General Leia in what would eventually become Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Carrie Fisher’s last film

Wonderwell is described as a “modern fairy tale,” featuring a cast that also includes singer Rita Ora. Deadline reports that the film has been picked up for distribution by Vertical, which has acquired the rights for North America and the UK for director Vlad Marsavin’s debut in a limited theatrical release.

The film will be available through AMC in the United States starting from June 23, followed by a digital streaming release. Will we see this film in Spain through any service? Most likely.

According to Marsavin, the film encountered challenges with visual effects after filming, which in turn increased the budget and explained the delay.

The released images of Fisher’s character, Hazel, are touching, especially because she bears a strong resemblance to her mother, Debbie Reynolds, in her role as Aggie in the Disney cult film Halloweentown.

The filmmaker revealed this week that the film will include a dedication to Fisher, whose death in December 2016 was a “great shock” to him and the team. The actress passed away four days after experiencing a medical emergency during a flight from London to Los Angeles.
