The dating app is testing an artificial intelligence tool that selects users’ prettiest photos for their profiles, in the hope that it will increase the chances of someone matching you.
The tool will examine the user’s photo album and select the five images that best represent the user.
Bernard Kim, CEO of Match Group, which owns Tinder, says AI can answer users’ queries about which photo best represents them and take the stress out of selection.
AI knows better than you do when you look your best
“I really believe that AI can help our users build better profiles in a more efficient way that really showcase their personalities,” Kim explained.
He said Match Group would roll out a series of initiatives that use generative AI to “eliminate awkwardness” and make dating more rewarding.
Tinder has also been testing other AI features for cutting-edge technology to play a bigger role in matters of the heart.
In a letter to shareholders this week, Match stated that the app planned to use AI to “deliver the right content to the right people to help improve relevance and ultimately user outcomes,” i.e., fewer swipes to the left.
Tinder has more than 75 million active users
Mark Van Ryswyk, Tinder’s chief product officer, also hinted last month that the app could adopt generative AI – tools that produce compelling text and images on demand – to help users write their bios.
The biography feature is still in its early stages and is only available in test markets, but it uses an AI system that suggests personalized text tailored to the “interests” and “relationship goals” sections of users’ profiles.
According to Van Ryswk, a recent Tinder study has shown that a third of its users would “absolutely” use generative AI to help them create a profile.
The study revealed that more than half of single men would use chatbots to help talk to potential dates, and more than 52% would use it to increase the number of people they talk to at once on dating apps.
Most single adults would use ChatGPT to help with online conversations, but only 37% said they would be open to using it to enhance their profiles.
