We already have the fiscal results for the last quarter of Sony. Conclusions? Well, they are very good, to the extent that the company’s revenue record for a second quarter has been broken. This speaks well of the company’s current performance, especially in its video game division, with PS5 leading the way.

According to the published document, during the last three months, 4.9 million PlayStation 5 consoles have been distributed, which is 1.6 million more than in the same quarter of the previous year. It’s worth noting that last year at this time, there was a severe stock crisis, a phenomenon that fortunately no longer exists for consumers. With these 4.9 million units, PS5 has now reached the milestone of 46.6 million consoles worldwide and is gaining momentum similar to that of PS4.

Moreover, this figure aims to increase significantly during the holiday season, as Sony aims to distribute an additional 17 million PS5 units from October 1st to March 31, 2024. The goal is ambitious, so we can expect to see many PlayStation 5 units in stores available for purchase.

All of this has undoubtedly influenced the financial results. The revenues of the video game division have set a historic record in the second quarter, reaching 954.096 billion yen, approximately 6.6 billion dollars. In addition, profits have also increased to 48.9 billion yen, 16.16% more than in 2022. While there have been other Q2 periods with higher profits, none have reached such a level of revenue.

With all these numbers in the background, it is clear that Sony is experiencing a luxurious period with PlayStation 5, despite the fact that the console still has a long way to go.
