Sometimes, company executives are surprised by the success of decisions they didn’t expect to work out well, which may have been evident from an external perspective. For instance, offering all players the opportunity to enjoy classic Final Fantasy games with certain enhancements was bound to be well-received.

This is exactly what has happened at Square Enix, where during the latest shareholders’ meeting, the executive leadership was asked if they were planning to bring more classics to the market, similar to what was seen with Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster. “Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster has been well received. Are there plans to remaster other previous titles? Personally, I would like to play Xenogears,” the shareholder stated.

One of the board members responded, “We refrain from sharing information about new titles, but we are considering various ideas within the company, and we hope you stay tuned for upcoming announcements.”

On the other hand, shareholders also inquired about the increasingly longer development times between games. In this regard, the board of directors acknowledged what is widely known in the industry: that creation periods are now longer than ever, with several years between the release of one title and the next.

They mentioned that a restructuring has been undertaken to ensure the smooth production of both sequels and new IPs that are yet to come.

Returning to classics, which one would you like to see brought back into the spotlight? We have a clear choice: Chrono Trigger. Hopefully, it will be revived so that as many players as possible can enjoy it on their consoles.
