Starfield continues to make headlines these days due to the purchase process of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft. If just 24 hours ago we told you that the game is the weapon being used by the FTC to prevent the purchase, now Bethesda defends its side of the battle with a clear and direct argument: if Starfield were not exclusive, the game would have an assured delay in its release date.

The statements have come from Pete Hines, Bethesda’s Head of Publishing, who during one of the sessions before the court commented that focusing on a single platform is benefiting Starfield’s development. “In my opinion, no, this game would not be coming to market in nine weeks if we were supporting a completely different platform [to Xbox],” he said.

“Focusing on fewer platforms has been a great benefit to this team. If we had been on more platforms it would take more time and cost more money. In my opinion, it’s a much bigger risk,” he stresses to end his statement.

Of course, it doesn’t take a genius to realize that he is referring to PlayStation 5 when he talks about these “other platforms”, since a game of these dimensions is unthinkable on Nintendo Switch right now (it doesn’t even come out for Xbox One, which is Microsoft’s console of the previous generation). Therefore, Bethesda and Xbox are using this higher development cost to defend themselves against the FTC in court.

Starfield is currently set for a September 6, 2023 release on Xbox X | S Series and PC.

We know that the game will run at 30 frames per second on Xbox consoles. However, on X Series it will have 4K resolution, while on S Series it will do the same at 1440p.
