Classics never die, and Super Mario RPG is a classic for many good reasons. That’s why it shouldn’t surprise us that Nintendo has announced in its recent Nintendo Direct a remake of Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, renamed as Super Mario RPG.
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars is a game designed by Shigeru Miyamoto and developed in collaboration between Nintendo and Square. Originally published in 1996, two gaming legends, Shigeru Miyamoto and Hironobu Sakaguchi, who are known for their work on the Zelda and Final Fantasy series, respectively, worked together on this project. The result was a charming, incredibly intelligent, and enjoyable RPG that was only released in Japan and the US. It served as the precursor to its spiritual successors, the Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi franchises. While these two exceptional franchises were created, they never quite captured the magic of the original game.
With a release date set for November 17th of this year, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars is one of Nintendo’s major releases for this year. Not only does it evoke a sense of nostalgia, but the game itself remains exceptional even to this day.
