The capacity of the iPhone 16 batteries has been leaked, always supposedly. A leak, via MacRumors, published on the Chinese social network Weibo by a user whose history is still to be verified, reveals the details. The information matches the previously published figures by X by Majin Bu, but provides a new value that was previously unknown, and no, it does not bring good news.

What happened to the iPhone 16 Plus?

According to leaked data, the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max models will enjoy an increase in battery capacity compared to their predecessors. However, the iPhone 16 Plus seems to have other plans, as it sees a reduction in battery capacity compared to the iPhone 15 Plus. This move, if officially confirmed, which we must remember we are working with unofficial information, is particularly surprising considering that, apart from the size difference, the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus are expected to be practically identical.

Anyway, as always when dealing with battery values, it is important to remember that many more factors come into play than just capacity. In this sense, greater efficiency in chips, for example, can make a reduction completely imperceptible and an increase can make all the difference. The breakdown of the figures, as far as we know, reveals the following changes in battery capacity:

  • iPhone 16: From 3,349 mAh to 3,561 mAh, a 6% increase.
  • iPhone 16 Plus: From 4,383 mAh to 4,006 mAh, a 9% reduction.
  • iPhone 16 Pro: From 3,274 mAh to 3,355 mAh, a 2.5% increase.
  • iPhone 16 Pro Max: From 4,422 mAh to 4,676 mAh, a 5% increase.

The iPhone with the Plus surname has traditionally been the phone with the most battery in each range. This is because it enjoys the extra size of the Pro Max variant, but has some fewer components, such as the third camera, which leave room for really large batteries.

We will have to wait and see what exactly Apple releases this fall, but everything seems to indicate that there will be more changes than we expected. The small size change, a larger screen, the redesign of the camera positions, the titanium finishes, and its colors all contribute to a substantial evolution of this generation of the iPhone compared to the iPhone 15. We will see how it performs in terms of battery life.
