With the 2023 progress bar about to reach 100%, it’s time for the services we use daily to release their annual awards and summaries. Among them, we encounter the Google Play Best of 2023 Awards, which highlight the best apps and games that have arrived on the Play Store this year.

As a big novelty, this year, Google has added several new categories: Best with AI, Best Game for Good, Best game on Google Play for PC, and Best Multidevice App and Game.

Google opened the voting for the User’s Choice Awards (awards chosen by users) in early November for a couple of weeks. Besides apps and games, this year the company also allowed voting for your favorite book on the Play Store (another category that didn’t exist in the last two years).

While we’re yet to know which apps and games have made a big impact in Spain, these are the highlighted winners in the United States:

  • Best app – Imprint: Learn Visually

  • Best Game – Honkai: Star Rail

  • Best Multidevice App – Spotify
  • Best Multi-Device Game – OUTERPLANE: Strategy Anime
  • App chosen by users – ChatGPT
  • Game chosen by users – MONOPOLY GO

Imprint, which received the award for the best app, uses visual storytelling to help you understand important topics in finance, business, science, technology, etc. This app is only available for download in the United States, so don’t be surprised if you haven’t heard of it before. On the other hand, Honkai: Star Rail, a science fiction and space fantasy RPG, won the award for the best game.

It’s no surprise that ChatGPT won the award for the app chosen by users, given that AI and ChatGPT have been the two hottest topics in the tech industry this year. WhatsApp has been crowned as the best app for smartwatches, while AllTrails and Audible received honorable mentions.

Concepts, a vector-based drawing and sketching app, won the award for the best app for tablets, with Canva and Everand receiving honorable mentions. Google awarded FlipaClip, a 2D animation application, as the best app for Chromebooks, with Evernote receiving an honorable mention.
