If you live on the internet, you know about Critical Role. In fact, much of the current popularity of ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ is based on the sessions of this group of voice actors (and friends) who one day started broadcasting their games on Twitch. What they didn’t expect is that they would end up having their own company based on their characters, including comics, animated series, official manuals, and, of course, career growth as they became recognized by casting directors.

Very recently, it was announced that ‘Final Fantasy XIV‘ would have a tabletop role-playing version, which made Matthew Mercer, the master of Critical Role, famous. For some, he saved tabletop role-playing, but for others, he set the bar so high that many players, realizing they aren’t as good as him, give up playing forever. A piece of advice: don’t do it. No one is as good as Matt, that’s a fact.

In recent years, Mercer hasn’t been short of work because everyone wanted him in their game or series. ‘Starfield,’ ‘Baldur’s Gate III,’ and even ‘The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom‘ have a piece of him. But now, something much bigger is coming: the game of his dreams and one that marked his life wants him to portray one of its key characters. ‘Final Fantasy VII Rebirth’ will feature him as Vincent Valentine.

Watch out, because he already appeared in ‘Final Fantasy VII Remake,’ providing voices for unimportant NPCs (you’ll have to listen closely), but when he had the opportunity to play Valentine, he gave it his all during the casting. The result? A call, nine months later… telling him he would be voicing NPCs again. Disappointed, he went to the recording booth where they had prepared a prank for him.

The script seemed to have a bug and turned into that of Vincent Valentine. If only all jobs had this surprise phase – it would certainly make job interviews more spectacular.
